After the completion of the four steading dwellings at Totleywells Cottages, our client has recently upgraded the original cottage.

The original cottage is at the entrance of the site and detached from the steading setting to the rear. We have worked with our Client to form a contemporary five bedroom dwelling and although it is still in keeping with the traditional steading setting this property has a more bespoke finish.

We transformed the single storey cottage into two storeys by designing the roof to be raised above the original stone wall finish. The Client has upgraded the interior of the cottage with a high quality finish.

Six two-storey three and five bedrooms homes have been built through the Phase 1 works of Netherton Farm, along with a two-storey building comprising six two bedroom flats.

Traditional materials and forms were used due to the rural location and these are contrasted against contemporary detailing to create a modern development. Large areas of glazing and balconies are positioned towards the breathtaking views across the surrounding Perthshire countryside.

The houses were organised in a loose, unconstrained layout with the dwellings stepping through the site to create a natural relationship to each other. It was hoped this arrangement would encourage relationships between the neighbours, to create a village community within the development.

We have been working with our Client the last few years to complete the erection of four new steading dwellings at Totleywells Cottages just outside Winchburgh. Originally an outbuilding to the rear of the existing cottages, this has been transformed into a modern version of a traditional steading with high specification interiors including the use of renewable energy by way of air source heat pumps.

This new build along with the upgrade of the existing cottages has formed a secluded and contemporary development with views of the Queensferry Crossing.

We are currently working with the Client to upgrade the original cottage to tie this through with the rest of the development.

A mixed development of apartments at ground floor and duplex dwellings above.

The site is a sloping green open space which falls towards the River Allen, set amongst a backdrop of a mature tree lined valley. The development is positioned along the edge of the street and is set back by four meters to create a green edge giving a feeling of space.

The challenge was to connect the different nature and scale of the sites physical context. The building responds to its physical context by subtley changing scale along the street elevation.

The development is a mixed use residential development on a site along Spring Gardens, Edinburgh. The site was a wasteland directly facing Holyrood Park. The proposal is separated into three blocks and consists of six townhouses, nine flats and two duplex apartments.

The development is stepped across the site to relate with the neighbouring buildings.

A feature of the Royal Park is the manner in which the urban fabric begins immediately at the park edge and on this basis our site aims to consolodate this strong physical edge.

The saw tooth roof profile of the buildings allow glimpses through the development to Holyrood Park and the massing of the buildings generally attempt to relate and celebrate the views over the vast expanse of the Park and beyond Arthur's Seat.

easter road, edinburgh

Easter Road was originally a row of derelict shops which has been converted into 6 new flats.

We wanted to create something which differed from the standard converted shop fronts which are prevalent throughout Easter Road. The frontage was upgraded with the use of timber cladding and with consideration of the window fenestration; this unified the frontage to the existing building.

The Client completed the work themselves and has done a great job on the finishes throughout, internally as well as externally, especially working with the existing structure.
