Walter Wood
Walter is the founding member of the practice and has considerable experience in private and speculative housing, having worked for two large house builders. One being innovators of timber frame housing, and a keen passive house designer, he has used this knowledge to the benefit of many clients.
Starting in private practice Walter continually strived to attain the involvement of every member of the team whether within the office or on site projects. With the principle that it takes many cogs to make a wheel, it is this philosophy that has brought success.
Walter is now one of QB Wood’s consultants and still provides support on several projects within the office.
Caroline Slorach
Caroline studied Architecture at the Edinburgh College of Art and qualified in 1996.
After qualifying she worked in several architectural practices gaining a wide experience of various sized projects, co-ordinating and involved in all aspects of these projects.
Since joining the practice as an Associate in Walter Wood Associates, Caroline took a keen interest in the direction of the practice and how the practice was to develop. Continuing from Associate, Caroline took on the role of Director for Slorach Wood Architects for many years bringing inspiration, great work ethic and promoting good design within the practice.
Caroline is valued as a key member of the team and is now one of QB Wood’s main consultants, continuing her work with the practice. Caroline manages many of the projects within the practice, specialising in the larger scale projects, and continues to contribute her attentive ability to design, her good Client relations, valuable knowledge and experience.
Nicola McClean
Nicola joined the practice as a graduate Architect in 1992. Further to passing her part 3 and progressing as a Project Architect, the introduction of the CDM regulations prompted the practice to train her as a Planning Supervisor.
In 1995 Nicola and Walter Wood set up the practices’ sister company Alliance CDM. As a Director of Alliance CDM, she continues her role as CDM adviser to QB Wood Architects. With the new 2015 CDM regulations now in effect, she assists the practice with their principal designer role and oversees all health & safety issues within the practice.
As an Architect, Nicola has experience in running a varied range of projects on site, from flatted developments to house extensions. Nicola’s excellent management skills allow her to successfully combine her varied roles within the practices.
Alliance CDM
Alliance CDM was established in 1995 in direct response to the introduction of the CDM Regulations which came into force three months previously. As architects, the directors of Alliance feel that a company dedicated to keeping abreast of CDM and Health & Safety legislation, coupled with the architects experience in leading design teams, is a great advantage in ensuring co-operation between designers, contractors and client and promoting working together as the key to realising our overall objectives.
